What browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari) should I use?

John Aitchison Updated by John Aitchison

Our classroom uses the newest, best technology available for online video chat: it's called WebRTC. This technology was primarily developed by Google, thanks Google! The popular Google Chrome web browser is by far the best browser to use for online video chat; the only exception being that if you're using an iPhone or iPad, you need to use Safari browser.

Most importantly - update your browser!

No matter which browser you use that we list below, make sure it's updated. This is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your lessons work well.

If you have a Windows, Apple, or Linux computer

Use Google Chrome! Firefox also works, and Safari should work (although it is most prone to problems). Microsoft Edge recently added functionality for WebRTC, so it should work, but we highly recommend Chrome above all else.

If you have an iPhone or iPad

You'll need to use Safari browser with iPhones or iPads. Also, you'll need iOS version 11.2 or later. Unfortunately Apple has been far behind in adopting WebRTC, but they're getting better.

If you have an Android phone

Chrome is highly recommended, but Firefox should also work.
